Cultural Narrative.
Cultural response & Sustainability
We will be identified as a New Zealand school that honours New Zealand’s dual cultural heritage. Our school culture reflects, respects and reinforces Tikanga and Te Reo Māori and our learners expect to learn, understand and participate in this as part of belonging here.
We celebrate New Zealand's growing cultural diversity. All learners can expect to see their culture represented in our place and know they belong here. We know our cultural diversity is a valuable resource for 21st-century learning and in promoting our values.
Relationship with Mana whenua
As part of our earthquake building redevelopment we were very fortunate to develop a story relationship with Mana Whenua through Ngāi Tahu, Ngāi Tūāhuriri and Mātauraka Mahaanui.
In 2020 we were gifted a naming document that has provided us with a rich and meaningful connection to our area and our past. We are using this as the basis of our story to pass on to future generations of learners and teachers at Paparoa Street School.
