Out of Zone Ballot Process.


All students who do not live within the Paparoa Street School Zone may enter onto a ballot to apply to enrol at our school.

Below you will find information relating to the ballot process for your child.

Please note, the ballot process is the same whether your child is turning 5 and starting school for the first time, OR, your child is not starting school for the first time.

Please be sure to follow the correct ballot process so that your application can be treated as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Learning In Action Tours

We run two Learning In Action Tours a term from 9.15 am - 10.00 am. This is a time to come in and meet the leadership team, hear about how our school operates and be taken for a walk through our school by our school student ambassadors. We encourage all new families to our school to come and experience a tour of the school.

Ballot Circumstance:
Child turning 5 over the age of 5 and has been enrolled in another school and you live out of our school zone.

If your child is about to turn 5 and you are not in our school zone, but would like to make an out of zone application follow these steps.

Step One:

 

Ring our school office  03 352 8160  to attend our Learning in Action Tour. These run twice a term from 9.15 - 10 00 am.

This is a time to come in and meet the leadership team, hear about how our school operates and be taken for a walk through our school by our school student  ambassadors.           

 

Step Two:

 

Complete the online ballot form here. The office staff will contact you to acknowledge they have received your application.

Ballot Dates:

Term 1, 2024:

Ballot applications are due by Wednesday 18th September 2023 and drawn Friday 20th September 2023.

Term 2, 2024:

Ballot applications are due by Wednesday 6th March 2024 and drawn Friday 8th March 2024.

Term 3, 2024:

Ballot applications are due by Wednesday 22th May 2024 and drawn Friday 24th May 2024.

Term 4, 2024:

Ballot applications are due by Wednesday 21st August 2024 and drawn Friday 23rd August 2024.

Term 1, 2025:

Ballot applications are due by Wednesday 18th September 2024 and drawn Friday 20th September 2024.

 

Step Three:

 

When the ballot has been drawn you will be notified by email from our office to let you know if you have been successful. You must email or phone the school office to accept this placement by the time frame you have been given in this email. We cannot accept late acceptance emails or calls.

Please follow these instructions once you have heard from us.

 

Step Four:

 

Fill in the pre-enrolment form here.  Please note ALL the fields in this form must be completed with as much detail as possible.

Email or bring into the school office these documents office@paparoastreet.school.nz

  • A copy of the eligibility document for your child.  This can be either:

    • NZ birth certificate or NZ passport (if NZ citizen)

    • Australian passport (if Australian citizen) or

    •  NZ residency permit or NZ student visa/permit and Parental work permit (if the child is not a NZ citizen).

  • Immunisation certificate

  • A copy of any Court Order Documents (if applicable)

 

Step Five:

 

You and your child will be invited to our Parent Information Morning and Starting School Party. These events take place a term before your child is due to start school and before the cohort entry group starts,

We offer three classroom visits for your child to attend after The Starting School Party. These are held on Tuesday mornings from 9.00am - 10.30am. Please bring some morning tea for your child.

 

Year Classifications & Class Organisation:

  • A child who starts School between May through to December will be classified as Year 0.

  • A child starting School between January through to April will be classified as Year 1.

Children starting School in March, April will be closely monitored, before classification as a Year 1 or Year 2, for the following year is confirmed. In Term 4, those parents of children whose birthdays fall in these months will be invited to discuss classification for the following year with the classroom teachers and kāinga leaders.
