Learning with us.

You will agree that children by design are curious and natural learners. Imagine then, a school where young students truly know themselves as learners, can articulate their strengths and areas for development and design challenging learning programmes for themselves. A place where the  vision for learning and the school’s values firmly position the learner at the centre and where adults value student voice and agency.

What if learning at school was limitless no matter your age, size, gender or ethnicity and unbound by time or location. Where learning success was measured and celebrated by the development of key capabilities alongside extraordinary academic progress?

Paparoa Street School is committed to the provision of learning to inspire and impact. We believe we can  become an irresistible education choice for all families within our geographical community, for education professionals and especially for our children who we want to be “running in” to learn in their “happy place”. We are determined to have extraordinary (going beyond what is usual, regular and customary) expectations of our teachers and learners within a warm and demanding culture. We expect our learning experiences and our learners to make a difference to our people, our place and our world both now and in the future.

Core Curriculum

As specified in the NZ curriculum the vision for all children in New Zealand is to be confident, connected, actively involved life long learners.

In order for young children to be fully engaged in all learning experiences they need to be capable and confident in their own abilities in Literacy (Reading, Writing and Oral Language) and Mathematics.

Itinerant opportunities

Paparoa Street School are extremely fortunate to have many itinerant opportunities for children to participate in.

In support of these learning opportunities, where possible, the school provides a facility for individual tutors. The school has no other responsibility for this extracurricular activity. Enrolment in any programme, along with any financial arrangement, is only between the parent/caregiver and the private tutor.

Online learning
& digital device

At Paparoa Street digital technology is a tool for learning.

“Learning activities integrate digital technologies appropriately to develop digital literacy and support authentic, higher-order, collaborative learning that is student centred, personalised and differentiated.”

We use digital devices to support and enhance learning and teaching at Paparoa Street.
