Some Additional Learning
12 June 2013

Last weekend I watched the salmon spawning in Porters Pass. We collected eggs for our hatchery in room 23.  Our salmon eggs are developing eyes now. Next week we expect to see their backbones. At that stage we will be able to watch them wriggle in their eggs. They will start hatching at the end of this month.

Middle School Book Week
11 June 2013

We are living the dream over in the Middle School at the moment with so many students promoting Book Week and how much they love reading. We had parents come into classes and read, teachers change rooms each day and read to them and an amazing display of characters and their books last Thursday.

The Year 4 students had the pleasure of Mr King, Henry King's dad, come to speak to them about what it's like to be a journalist. The learning they gained from it was remarkable and their articles on the visit are  a true representation of what he spoke about.

Mr Eames is a bit of a hero in the Middle School as he is the driving force behind Boys and Books here at school. His displays in the library are not to be missed and we encourage you all to pop in and have a look at the books he recommends for boys to read.

Here are a few snap shots from the individual classes from Book Week - see who you can spot!

Rehua Marae Visit
05 April 2013

The middle school has a wonderful authentic experience visiting Rehua Marae last Thursday. Everyone was involved in the powhiri, hongi and some students even shared their mini to the komatua. We were grateful for the support from our parents in both years 3 and 4. We hope to build on from the relationship that has been formed in the future.

Kind Regards
Middle Team

What's Happening in Term 2
23 May 2013

What a wonderful start to the year for us all. All of the teachers are loving how all the students have come back after the holidays and know their class routines and are so motivated to learn.

We have been slowly introducing new equipment into PE shed and it has been amazing to see so many students making new games to play with their friends. One hot item is the Hoola Hoops. There are some very talented Hoola Hoopers in the Middle Team - look out New Zealand's Got Talent in a few years! Also Mrs A has organised two new outside activities – Genga and Connect 4 for students to enjoy.

The Year 3 teachers and care takers have cleared a site outside classes 26, 25 and 27 in preparation for their Enchanted Garden. They have had lots of donations of potting mix, seeds, wood and even a bath tub so watch this space.

The annual Art Workshop was great and students were very proud of their New Zealand Native Bird sketch.

During Writing time each class has been studying Newspapers. We have never seen such great interest and motivation from the students to locate, search and write articles.

News from the Middle Syndicate Term 1
19 February 2013

What a great start to the year! We are excited about the new P.E. shed arriving to house our sports equipment. The old/new bark has arrived on the playground to support safe play. Friday gave us a perfect day for Tabloid Sports and house singing. Students loved coming to school in their house colours and enjoy gaining house point cards for positive playground behaviour.
