Senior school camps

Each year the senior school goes away on camp for three days and two nights. We alternate each year between the Hanmer Springs Forest Park and Wainui in Akaroa. Camp is a really important part of our programme in the first term of every year. The children, teachers and parents really enjoy spending time together in the outdoors. Our camps focus on the skills of being a team player and working together co-operatively to achieve a common goal.

At Hanmer Springs our students can try the following activities:

  • mountain biking
  • rock/tree climbing
  • initiatives - practical problem solving activities that required the children to work together as a team to complete successfully
  • bush craft - putting up a variety of tents and making a hot milo with marshmallows using a primus
  • orienteering
  • relaxing at the hot pools... a real highlight after a day’s busy programme for most of the children.

In alternate years we camp at Wainui. Coasteering is one of the most popular activities we do. It is an exploration along the rocky coastline. The children are in, on, around and under the coastline, with its rocks, seaweed, bird life and sea life constantly changing.

We also look forward to:

  • environmental beach study
  • orienteering
